Thought I'd give me 2 pence in on this site, for whose wishing to purchase a second generation older Focus. I would recommend this car, prefer these to the newer ones. Plenty of space, no turbos to worry about, good options, pretty reliable. Those who are concerned about reliability, I've done the following in 3.5 years: Front left suspension arm with tracking £150 Both sway bars on the back £70 Alternator £510 Stereo main board repair £120 All including parts and labour. The boot button doesn't work so have to use the key for that. Top motor mount is a bit knackered too. Clutch still original, plenty of bite. The motor is on 95,000 miles. Done 33,000 miles since I've had it. Not left me stranded on the side of the road. Obvs not a Toyota but pretty reliable. These can go 120k + easy with good servicing. Nice looking thing, still looks modern IMO. If you want one, get one with good service history. Plenty of space. Would recommend.

Ford Focus EcoBoost engine warning for potential buyers - catastrophic engine failure risk

We purchased a Ford Focus 1.0T from a Ford dealer in 2018 expecting many years of reliable service. Within a few months of the warrant expiring the suffered a catastrophic engine failure due to 'low oil pressure'. We had the car routinely serviced but were told that as we missed the service interval by a couple of thousand miles the warranty would not be honoured even if the engine had failed during the three year period. Apparently, the oil pump is easily blocked leading to a rapid and sudden drop in oil pressure and consequential engine failure. A car costing £24K is now worthless and Ford refuse to acknowledge the inherent design fault. Any body considering purchase of a Ford with an EcoBoost engine should investigate the risks associated with the design and if you do purchase one, ensure that you meet the service interval to the letter of the terms & conditions

Ive had mine since she was 3 yrs old and she is the best and most reliable car I have ever driven, very spacious and comfortable. Ive had to renew tyres etc, over the years but she has never let me down. Now 13 she has a fault because shes an old girl, which will become a bottomless pit of money for me so sadly and reluctantly im having to get another car, ive only ever driven Ford's and ive had some great ones but my Focus was my best and favourite!

Andy was wonderful and very helpful and honest.  The car was honestly portrayed and it was MOT’d and serviced ready for me.   I would recommend this dealer and Andy

I drove this car for a week as a rental. I am a qualified mechanic and have a keen interest in cars. I was disappointed with the performance of the 1 litre and found it quite unresponsive even considering the size of the engine and turbo. The steering was horrendously light and gave poor feedback. I was driving the car long distances of over 100 miles at 55mph and never got better than 50mpg despite ford claiming it will do 70+ .

I owned a Focus back in 2000. It was OK. Styling was a bit so so and it felt a bit compact internally. Bought a brand new Focus Titanium is August this year. A significant improvement. Externally it looks great (especially from the front), much sleeker look and the front grill adds a nice touch. Roomy to, for a small family car feels very spacious and with a decent size of boot as well. My Titanium came very well equipped; parking assist, auto stop / start, emergency stop, reactive headlights, SYNC 2, cruise control, limiters, trip computer. Holds the road well, though I do get wheel spin when pulling away on greasy road surfaces. Fairly economical, I get over 50mpg without really trying. Seats a bit uncomfortable though. However all these fantastic points become a bit superficial when the quality control and build is so poor. At only three months old my Focus is already plagued with faults and defects. Ford would seem to have overstretched themselves with the technology, it works up to a point, but durability is certainly not amongst the performance criteria. Gear stick cover keeps popping out loose, SYNC fails constantly needing a reboot and a recent failure on headlamps was down right dangerous, certainly a health and safety issue

door pillars in frint restrict visibility, and there are blind spots to the rear when reversing, otherwise quite satisfactory.

Practical car and even though it is getting on in years it still sails through it's MOT and never gives us any problems. Great car for having a large dog in the back without it being over big to drive.

Having had several petrol Mondeos in the past, we were finding it increasingly difficult to buy anything but diesel models, which we did not want for both low mileage and environmental reasons. As we were not regularly carrying family in our car we decided to downsize and as fans of Ford, the Focus was the natural choice. The ecoboost engine was a calculated gamble but was a brilliant decision. Moving from a 2 litre Mondeo to this engine was totally painless and once I was used to the very different gear box and the extremely wide range of 2nd gear, I love the drive. Very responsive and with all the power of a much larger engine, combined with good road holding. Plenty of room inside the cabin although I was disappointed with the fact that although I had supposedly moved up a model spec from the Mondeo, everything was of a lower spec in fact.(Ford's usual trick every time we change cars after 3 years!). Seats nowhere near as comfortable and seat belts far too high at my shoulder as an average sized woman, settling at throttling level across my neck. Have suspicions that I could be badly injured by them in an accident ......not a problem in our old massive Mondeo, which was brilliantly adapted for even a small woman to drive. BUT, why won't we buy another Focus? Boot capacity is shockingly small for a car of this size. We looked at other similar sized cars before our purchase and suspected it might be a problem, but didn't realise how bad. 2 weeks holiday in UK in a rented house taking bedding and towels as well as luggage and we had to fill the back seat as well as the boot. We've not had to do this for over 30 years, even when we had a Fiesta. Husband has a 2012 Fiesta and we can get more luggage in its boot, although the car itself is much smaller. This one, very important, issue would prevent us buying another Focus and we are quite stumped as to what car to buy next. Suspect we will have to scour the country to try to find a petrol engines Mondeo if such a thing still exists. Bet your act together, Ford, of you will loseaFord customers of 35 years!

I am tall. I find this a comfortable, reliable , efficient, comparatively spacious car to drive - and ideal as there now are only two of us travelling in it most of the time.

A good little car. Always reliable and starts first time. Drives well and is comfortable. Even though it is getting on in years. 17 now. And 107K miles seems still to be very good. Hope to get a few more years from it... [touch wood}. Perfect as the family runabout and with enough space to carry what is required.

Had the car since new. No major problems in 13 years. Long distances at high cruising speed with very good mpg. Extremely comfortable and spacious with the seats folded down. Prefer my 5 speed gearbox to the current 6 speed. Long may we continue together!

held this car for 14 years and it is still as reliable as the day I bought it. Only fault is that sometimes things need replacing not for use but age. I would love to buy a new Focus but worry that the build quality is not as food as my Ghia model.

Fast if you want it, sedate and torquey if you don't. Anyone can service it and spares are available anywhere. A performance car thats reasonable to run and has the capacity and usefulness of a family hatch ('cos thats what it is)
