As Audi grows its range of electric cars, the Q4 e-tron is the first more affordable option in the brand’s EV range – being significantly cheaper than both the larger e-tron SUV and sportier e-tron GT, yet with the same classy image and upmarket interior that Audis are known for. Introduced in 2021, it offers a range of tech advancements, while Audi also sells it as a more stylish Sportback version. Bringing a long range and a roomy interior, there’s a lot to like about the Q4 e-tron.

About Audi E-Tron

Joining the e-tron and e-tron GT, the Q4 e-tron arrived in dealers in 2021, two years after it was first shown off as a concept car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, with surprisingly few changes.

Serving as a more premium offering in the electric SUV class, it was launched with a range of battery options, with the top version having a claimed range of more than 300 miles. A sleeker coupe-like Sportback model was also introduced at the end of 2021.

Why buy a used E-Tron?

At its launch, Audi reckoned the Q4 would become its second most popular car in the UK, only behind the best-selling A3. And as it’s proven itself to be a credible all-rounder, we reckon this electric Audi will do well.

Of all the reasons to buy it, its interior is a particular highlight. It’s an area where this German firm’s models are known to impress, and the Q4 e-tron is no exception. The quality of materials used is superb, and it really helps to justify it as a more premium option in this class. There’s a large touchscreen and digital dials as standard too, which gives it a particularly modern feel. High-spec models even feature an augmented reality head-up display, which can relay live arrows into the road to tell you where to turn off. It’s properly futuristic stuff, for sure.

The interior is also impressively spacious, as thanks to using a dedicated electric car platform, Audi wasn’t limited by the usual restraints of a petrol or diesel car (a transmission tunnel, gearbox, etc), freeing up plenty of extra room. With a huge amount of rear space for passengers and a big boot, the Q4 e-tron is an ideal family car.

A range of powertrains are also welcome, with three options to choose from, each varying in power and battery size, depending on your requirements. That means there are more affordable options for those not needing such a long range, while at the other end of the spectrum there is a long-range model offering a claimed 316 miles from a single charge, which is the most of any electric Audi on sale at the time of writing.

Affordability also might not be the top reason why you’d choose an Audi, but next to other premium SUVs, the Q4 e-tron is actually surprisingly good value for money – undercutting both the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Mercedes EQA for price.

E-Tron updates

Here’s a very brief history of this electric Audi.

Audi first showed off the Q4 e-tron concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, previewing the model’s stylish looks and practical interior. Audi would follow this up in July 2020 with a similarly styled Sportback version, showing the brand’s intention to have various body styles.
Audi pulled the wraps of both the standard Q4 SUV and the Sportback in April 2021, with both versions sharing a close resemblance to the concept cars. First deliveries kicked off in the middle of 2021.

Audi offers a broad range of trims and powertrains on the Q4, with highlights as follows.

What should I look for when buying a used E-Tron?

The main things to think about then are what you need from your car, as if it’s a long range you really want to opt for the top models, but if it’s not such a priority you can save a decent amount of money by choosing a smaller option. Just be aware of choosing the right spec too, as there are certain features you need a range-topping car for. A reversing camera, for example, is only included if you choose the pricey Vorsprung version.
