Expert Opinion

The sizeable, luxury flagship of the Lexus range, the LS was first released in 1989, and has since evolved into a thoroughly premium car. Refined and sophisticated to the absolute maximum, the LS600h hybrid marries a powerful 5.0 litre V8 engine with a 221bhp electric motor to deliver blistering power (0-60mph in just over six seconds), but manageable economy (219g/km CO2 emissions and 30.4mpg returns). Inside, the cabin is lusciously decked out with exquisite finishings, leather, chrome, surround sound and full entertainment mod cons, which suggests it is a car designed to be driven in more than it is designed to drive. For this purpose it fares exceptionally well, and while it doesn't quite top its Mercedes and Jaguar rivals, it remains one of the most comfortable and refined luxury limos available.
