Expert Opinion

Since its launch in 2005, the 107 has emerged as a first choice for city drivers. Excellent fuel economy, a modern, sleek exterior, roomy interior and responsive handling make it a vehicle perfect for heavy traffic or tight parking. You can expect 65.7 mpg on manual versions and an incredible 70 mpg on diesels. The 107 has up to six airbags and a reinforced shell, ABS (Advanced Braking System) and CSC (Corner Stability Control) as standard and ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) as an optional extra, so it's super safe, too. Insurance Group Three will put a smile on the face of your finances while CO2 emissions starting at just 99g/km keeps the environment happy

About Peugeot 107

Affordable to run, fun to drive and with a good reliability rating, the Peugeot 107 is one of the leading city cars on the market. First released in 2005, it remains popular today, particularly with young or first time drivers.

Being economic to insure and efficient to run, the affordability of the 107 make it ideal for city driving, while the good handling and compact size means that it can run through the smallest streets without much trouble.

Why buy a used 107?

With good efficiency, low running costs and consistent reliability, the Peugeot 107 is one of the most economical city cars on the market. Produced in partnership with Citroen and Toyota, it is the product of some of the world's finest car designers' collective efforts.

Being designed for inner city use, the performance options are slight (there is just one three cylinder 1.0 petrol), but this in turn keeps the run costs down. While this doesn't deliver any sort of power on the open road, in urban situations it runs well. So, a tight turning circle, easy parking and nimble manoeuvring are all where the 107 shows its true strengths.

On roads with a bit more life, the 107 doesn't fare quite as well, particularly the suspension which is geared more towards urban roads than country ones. But keep it in its natural urban environment and it will run and handle comfortably and efficiently.

There is no abundance of space in the 107, but what is on offer is sufficient to transport four people on a short journey. It is no market leader but it doesn't fall too far behind them, although boot space has been compromised to fit in more passenger room.

Similarly, the 107 isn't the best equipped car, but if you want to spend a bit more money you can add on optional extras such as ESP and electric windows. As a simple and affordable runaround, however, it has just enough to satisfy most drivers.

Being economical and durable, and being very reasonable to insure, the 107 is a popular choice among young drivers. This does mean that their price on the used car market is relatively high, but it also means that they tend not to depreciate very much. Coupled with a very impressive 62.8mpg economy and CO2 emissions of 99g/km - putting it crucially into the lowest tax bracket - it is one of the most economical cars available today.

107 updates

Peugeot 107

Reliable and economic to insure, Peugeot 107s are popular cars among young and first time drivers.

Here's a brief history of the Peugeot 107, starting from its launch in 2005.
  • As a joint venture with Toyota, PSA Peugeot Citroen launched the Peugeot 107 in 2005. Toyota and Citroen unveiled the Aygo and C1, which are badge engineered versions of the same car.
  • The new 107 was a replacement for the Peugeot 103, which stopped production in 2003.
  • In 2006 - and for the following four years - the worldwide sales of the 107 exceeded 100,000.
  • Various different trim options were introduced for the 107, including the Sport XS trim - which featured alloy wheels, a sports exhaust and spoilers - and the Kiss edition - released in partnership with the UK radio station Kiss FM.
  • In 2009 the 107 received a facelift, redesigning the car to fit in with the aesthetics of the Toyota and Citroen. The new model featured a revised front bumper, interior and wheel trim.
  • The German Automobile Club ranked the Peugeot 107 - along with the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1 - as its most reliable small car in 2009.

Which used 107 should I buy?

What should I look for when buying a used 107?

What to look for in a Peugeot 107
  • Have a thorough check for rust around the outside and underside of the car. Notable parts to look at are the exhaust back box, which is said to last just two years before beginning to rust, and the clutch, which reportedly lets in water which leads to surface corrosion and early wear.
  • If you are looking at a five door model make sure to check the rear door windows are stable. The glue holding these in commonly wears away, leaving the windows free to fall out.
  • Have a look under the bonnet, particularly at the water pump, which is known to sometimes leak.
  • Take the car out for a test drive and check that the brakes are working properly by holding the steering wheel lightly and seeing if the car pulls to either side when stopping.
  • Some 107 models have been known to have clutch problems. When out on the road make sure to test it and see that it isn't slipping and that there are no unusual noises or smells coming from it when in use.
  • Peugeot 107s, having been built in partnership with Toyota, are reliable cars. If you make sure to have a look for some of these points, you should be able to spot a car that isn't in the best condition.
